Faucet Repair in Diamond Bar, CA: Is It the Fixture or the Supply?
A drip, a weak stream or a puddle under the sink can come from the faucet, the valve behind it or the supply line. Sorting out which one saves a visit. This page covers the checks, the shower and tub valve, and the outdoor hose bib.

Is it the faucet or the supply?
The first question is where the water is coming from. A drip from the spout is the faucet. Water under the sink may be the faucet's connections, the shutoff valves or the supply lines. Dry the area, run the water, and look for the first drop.
- Spout drip: a worn cartridge, washer or seat.
- Handle leak: a worn seal or loose packing.
- Puddle under the sink: a supply line, a shutoff valve or a drain connection.
- Weak flow: a clogged aerator or a partly closed valve.
Close the small shutoff valve under the sink while you work out which part has failed. If that valve will not turn, close the home shutoff valve. Walnut Valley Water District says it is near the hose bib where the line enters the house.
Repair the faucet or replace it
Most faucets can be repaired by replacing the cartridge or seals. Replacement makes sense when parts are no longer available, the finish is worn through, or the body is corroded. Ask the plumber what parts are needed and whether the repair or the new faucet is the better value.

Call (833) 571-0120Scale and weak flow
White crust on a spout or aerator is mineral scale from hard water. Walnut Valley Water District's two main sources average 234 and 97 mg/L of hardness, so how much you see depends on which blend reaches your street. If scale keeps returning, a treating scale at the source treats the cause.
Shower valve and tub leaks
A shower that drips after it is off, or a tub spout that runs, points to a worn valve cartridge. Water stains on a wall or ceiling near the bathroom may point to a leak inside the wall at the valve or a failed shower pan. Do not wait if the stain grows.
Replacing a cartridge can often be done through the trim, but a valve that is leaking inside the wall needs access. Ask the plumber how they will reach it and who patches the wall. If a hidden leak is suspected, tracing a hidden leak is the next step.
Outdoor faucets and hose bibs
A hose bib that drips at the handle needs new packing, and one that leaks at the wall may have a failed pipe behind it. The home shutoff valve sits near the hose bib, so know where it is before you start.
Water running outdoors when nothing is on can also move the water meter. See the meter test on our leak detection page if you suspect a hidden problem.
What to have ready for the call
A short description lets the plumber bring the right parts. Photos of the fixture and the cabinet under the sink help even more.
- The brand of the faucet, if you can read it, and how old the fixture is.
- Where the water shows: spout, handle, base or cabinet floor.
- Whether the shutoff valves under the sink still turn.
- Whether hot water, cold water or both are affected.
If the cabinet floor is already wet, say so. Damp wood needs drying, and the plumber can tell you whether the leak has been going on long enough to matter.

Installing a new faucet or sink
A faucet swap in the same spot is simple. A new sink or a changed layout moves the drain and supply lines, which is bigger work. Ask the plumber what is included: supply lines, shutoff valves, drain parts and haul-away of the old fixture.
The City of Diamond Bar says plumbing permits are required for all plumbing work, including related fixtures. A like-for-like faucet swap may not need one, but moving fixtures is more likely to. Building and Safety is at (909) 839-7020.
Water heater and fixture combined repairs
When a faucet shows no hot water, check whether the other taps do. If none have hot water, the heater is the issue, and no-hot-water checks is the page to read.
Deciding between a faucet repair and a new faucet
A dripping faucet is often a worn cartridge or seat. A faucet that has been repaired before, or one whose finish is pitted, may be better replaced than chased.
- Ask whether parts for your model are still sold.
- Ask whether the shutoff valves under the sink work, since a new faucet is the time to replace them.
- Ask how the plumber will test for leaks at the supply lines once the work is done.
Either choice is reasonable when it is explained. The point is to know what you are getting and why before the water goes back on.
Faucet and sink questions, answered plainly
How do I tell whether the faucet or the supply line is leaking?
Dry the area, run the water and look for the first drop. A drip from the spout is the faucet. Water under the sink may come from the faucet connections, the shutoff valves, the supply lines or the drain. Close the small valve under the sink while you work it out.
Why does my faucet have white crust and weak flow?
White crust is mineral scale from hard water, and it can clog the aerator. Walnut Valley Water District's two main sources average 234 and 97 mg/L of hardness, so how much you see depends on the blend that reaches your street. A softener treats the cause.
Where is the shutoff valve if the one under the sink will not close?
Walnut Valley Water District says the home shutoff valve is near the hose bib where the line enters the house, and turning it clockwise should stop the flow. Know where it is before an emergency.
